Before Your First Visit

A Few Things to Know

The answers our front desk gives most often when a new patient calls.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Your insurance card, a photo ID, a list of your current medications, your glasses or contacts, and any records from a previous eye doctor if you have them.

We accept Medicare, Medicaid, and most major plans — including Florida Blue/BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, and more. We’ll verify your specific plan for you; just ask when you call.

A diabetic eye exam usually includes dilation, which can leave your vision blurry and light-sensitive for a few hours. We recommend bringing sunglasses and, if you tend to be sensitive, arranging for someone to drive you home.

Plan for a thorough visit rather than a quick in-and-out. We run complete diagnostic testing and Dr. Powers personally reviews your results with you, so appointments can run longer than a routine checkup — especially on busier days. We’re always working to keep your wait as short as we can, but we’d rather give your eyes the time they deserve than rush your care.
